Description
Tridacna maxima has the widest distribution of any Tridacnid species. They are found from the Red Sea, throughout the Indo-Pacific region, to Australia and Polynesia. These clams usually establish themselves in shallow, clear water, in high current areas where they are known to form high-density populations. They will attach to the rocky substrate with threads from their byssal organ. In the home aquarium, they will prefer to be in the upper rockwork, in high light areas. We find that feeding clams phytoplankton is not necessary but does provide great nutritional benefits to the clam and other reef inhabitants.
Ultra Black & Color grade Maximas showcase an extremely rare collection of dramatic white stripes and spots over a jet black mantle. Some specimens may have colors of green or blue mixed within the stripes. The reflection of colors will change as one views the mantle from different angles.
