Description
Tridacna maxima has the widest distribution of any Tridacnid species. They are found from the Red Sea, throughout the Indo-Pacific region, to Australia and Polynesia. These clams usually establish themselves in shallow, clear water, in high current areas where they are known to form high-density populations. They will attach to the rocky substrate with threads from their byssal organ. In the home aquarium, they will prefer to be in the upper rockwork, in high light areas. We find that feeding clams phytoplankton is not necessary but does provide great nutritional benefits to the clam and other reef inhabitants.
Ultra Gold grade Maximas showcase a wide variety of unique metallic shades of gold, copper or bronze with bold dark patterns and lines. Some specimens may have gold mixed with hues of purple and blue. The reflection of colors will change as one views the mantle from different angles.
