Description
Electric Blue Clownfish or Lightning Blue Clownfish are bright blue genetically modified fish that are highly sought after by aquarium Hobbyists. These fish were bred using genetically modified lightning maroon clownfish and hippo tang DNA. These fish come in varying shades of vibrant electric blue, and they develop extraordinary stripes that spill over their sides like electricity or lightning bolts. Their stripes are highly variable and can take on any number of attractive formations. As the fish matures these patterns will change and become more visually striking and its colors more vibrant.
Creation
The original Maroon Clownfish is a species of anemonefish found in the Indo-Pacific from western Indonesia to Taiwan and the Great Barrier Reef. They can grow up to be about 17 cm (6.7 in) and normally range from bright red-orange to maroon to dark brown. A gene was extracted from a blue hippo tang that encodes cells called iridiphores, a type of chromatophore, that naturally produce a bright blue color. Iridiphores are crystal structures of guanine (the famous G in our DNA tetrarchy of guanine, cytosine, adenine, and thymine). The crystalline arrangement reflects light at a specific spectrum and determines the animal's color. The gene was inserted into a lightning maroon clownfish embryo, allowing it to integrate into the clownfish's genome, which caused the fish to be brightly colored blue.
